mucinous pancreatic duct ectasia; intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm
Etiology:
1) benign ductal hyperplasia
2) papillary of dysplastic duct changes
3) mucous secretion from intraductal carcinoma
4) pancreatic cyst
Pathology:
- it is ALWAYS a premalignant condition if not already acarcinoma
- involves the main pancreatic duct, branches or both
Clinical manifestations:
- recurrent attacks of pancreatitis
Laboratory:
- endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)
Radiology:
- dilated pancreatic duct on computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging
Management:
- pancreatic resection
- better prognosis than ductal adenocarcinoma
