microsomal triglyceride transfer protein large subunit (MTTP, MTP)
Function:
1) transport of triglyceride, cholesteryl ester, & phospholipid between phospholipid surfaces
2) secretion of plasma lipoproteins containing apolipoprotein B
3) heterodimer composed of MTTP & protein disulfide isomerase
4) positively regulated by cholesterol & negatively regulated by insulin
Structure:
- contains 1 vitellogenin domain
Compartment: endoplasmic reticulum
Expression:
- expressed in liver, small intestine, ovary, testis, kidney
Pathology:
- defects in MTTP are associated with abetalipoproteinemia
