Mongolian spot

Congenital blue-gray macular lesions generally in the lumbosacral area, but may occur anywhere on the skin. Generally a single lesion is present; however, several truncal lesions may be present at birth. Epidemiology: - 99 to 100% in infants of Asiatic or Native American origin Pathology: 1) disruption of melanocyte migration from neural crest to epidermis 2) melanocytes within the dermis where they are not normally present 3) no melanomas reported in association with Mongolian spots Clinical manifestations: 1) blue-gray macular lesions present at birth 2) lesions disappear during childhood
