mitotic spindle

The fusiform or spindle-like structure of a cell in mitosis. It consists of microtubules (the spindle fibers) some of which are attached to each chromosome at its centromere. Other microtubules (continuous fibers) pass from pole to pole. The mitotic spindle facilitates chromosomal seggregation & movement.
