Milan criteria

Indications: - criteria used to assess suitability in patients with cirrhosis & hepatocellular carcinoma for liver transplantation [2] Procedure: - single tumor with diameter <= 5 cm, or up to 3 tumors each with diameter <= 3 cm - no extra-hepatic involvement - no major vessel involvement Clinical significance: - patients who met Milan criteria have good 5 year survival after liver transplantation [1] - patients who meet Milan criteria & have a tumor >= 2 cm are eligible for MELD score exception points, placing them at higher priority for liver transplantation [1]
