Tradename: Glyset. Indications: diabetes mellitus type-2 Dosage: 1) start 25 mg PO QD with food 2) maintenance: 50-100 mg TID Tabs: 25, 50, 100 mg. Monitor: 1) post-prandial glucose 2) hemoglobin A1c (HgbA1c) 3) no need to monitor liver function Mechanism of action: 1) inhibits alpha-glucosidase 2) delays breakdown of complex carbohydrates in the intestine 3) reduces HgbA1c levels in patients with type-2 diabetes
