methylmalonate; methylmalonic acid (MMA)

In man it is involved in the degradation of several amino acids, odd-chain fatty acids & cholesterol via propionyl-CoA to the tricarboxylic acid cycle. Metabolism of methylmalonate is dependent upon adenosylcobalamin (vitamin B12).
