mesenteric adenitis
Etiology:
1) idiopathic
2) may occur in association with:
a) appendicitis
b) inflammatory bowel disease
c) diverticulitis
d) Yersinia infection
1] Yersinia enterocolitica
2] Yersinia pseudotuberculosis [3]
Pathology:
- enlargement & inflammation of mesenteric lymph nodes
Clinical manifestations:
1) right lower abdominal pain
2) fever
3) diarrhea in < 50%
Radiology:
- computed tomography (CT) of the abdomen shows lymph nodes > 5 mm [2]
Complications:
- unneccessary appendectomy
