menotropins (Pergonal, Repronex)

Indications: - used sequentially with hCG to induce ovulation & pregnancy - in infertile women with functional amenorrhea - used with hCG to stimulate spermatogenesis in men with primary hypogonadotropic hypogonadism - hair follicle stimulation [1] Contraindications: Pregnancy category: X. Injection: 1) follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) 75 units luteinizing hormone (LH) 75 units / 2 mL ampule 2) follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) 150 units luteinizing hormone (LH) 150 units / 2 mL ampule Adverse effects: Male: 1) common (> 10%) - gynecomastia 2) less common (1-10%) - erythrocytosis (dyspnea, dizziness, anorexia, fainting, epistaxis) Female: 1) common (> 10%) - ovarian enlargement, abdominal distension, pain/rash at injection site 2) less common (1-10%) - ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome 3) uncommon (< 1%) - thromboembolism, pain, febrile reactions
