Indications:
- relief of painful or inflammatory conditions
Contraindications:
- liver disease
Dosage: 7.5 mg QD
Tabs: 7.5, 15 mg
Monitor:
- liver function tests periodically [4]
Adverse effects:
- allegedly causes less GI toxicity than diclofenac or piroxicam
- hepatoxicity
Mechanism of action:
a) inhibits both COX-1 & COX-2
b) 10-fold more selective for COX-2 than for COX-1 (contrast with > 100-fold selectivity for COX-2 inhibitors) [5]
