median eminence of hypothalamus

A slightly prominent lower segment of the hypothalamic infundibulum, immediately proximal to the hypophysial stalk. The region is characterized by capillary tufts of the infundibular arteries with fenestrated endothelium characteristric of circumventricular organs. The hypothalamic-hypophyseal portal system of veins arises from these capillaries.
