Function: - removes the amino-terminal methionine from nascent proteins (putative) - release of N-terminal amino acids, preferentially methionine, from peptides & arylamides Structure: belongs to the peptidase M24A family Compartment: mitochondria Pathology: - may play a role in colon tumorigenesis - overexpressed in colon cancer cell lines & colon tumors compared to normal tissues (at protein level) Note: - uncertain whether Met-1 or a Met upstream of this sequence is the initiator
