microtubule-associated protein 1B; MAP-1B; microtubule-associated protein 5; contains: MAP1 light chain LC1 (MAP1B)
Function:
- function essentially
- phosphorylated MAP1B may play a role in cytoskeletal changes that accompany neurite extension
- may bind to at least two tubulin subunits in the polymer, & this bridging of subunits might be involved in nucleating microtubule polymerization & in stabilizing microtubules
- MAP1 light chain LC1 is generated from MAP1B by proteolytic processing
- phosphorylated upon DNA damage, probably by ATM or ATR
- phosphorylated form involved in neurite outgrowth
- 3 different light chains, LC1, LC2 & LC3, can associate with MAP1A & MAP1B proteins
- LC1 interacts with the amino-terminal region of MAP1B
- interacts with ANP32A & TIAM2
- interacts (via C-terminus) with GAN (via kelch domains)
Structure:
- highly basic region with many copies of the sequence KKEE & KKEI/V, repeated but not at fixed intervals, responsible for the binding of MAP1B to microtubules
- belongs to the MAP1 family
Expression: fetal protein
Pathology:
- phosphorylated form found in neurofibrillary tangles
