Mallory-Weiss tear
Etiology:
- multiple episodes of vomiting in an otherwise healthy person[2]
- heavy alcohol use before vomiting
- hematemesis after weightlifting
- bulimia
Pathology:
- a mucosal tear at the gastroesophageal junction resulting from vomiting against a closed glottis.
Clinical manifestations:
1) vomiting
2) hematemesis (small volume in healthy patients) [2]
3) most patients stop bleeding spontaneously
4) recurrent bleeding is uncommon
Special laboratory:
- upper GI endoscopy
Management:
1) supportive
2) endoscopy
3) arterial angiotherapy
