lypressin (lysine vasopressin, Diapid)

Tradename: Diapid. Indications: - used to control polyuria, polydipsia & dehydration in patients with central diabetes insipidus Contraindications: Pregnancy category: C Safety in lactation: ? Dosage: - 1-2 sprays intranasally QID PRN. Bottles: 8 mL. Pharmacokinetics: - elimination: liver, kidney Adverse effects: 1) generally infrequent & mild 2) rhinorrhea 3) nasal congestion 4) nasal irritation 5) periorbital edema 6) headache 7) abdominal cramps 8) slight increase in blood pressure Drug interactions: - carbamazepine, chlorpropamide may potentiate effects of lypressin Mechanism of action: 1) synthetic lysine vasopressin analog 2) antidiuretic properties with no vasopressor or oxytocic effects
