lymphoepithelioma

A very poorly differentiated squamous cell carcinoma. Pathology: 1) syncytial groupings of polyhedral cells with ill-defined boundaries 2) round to oval & uniformly vesicular nuclei 3) prominent eosinophilic nucleoli 4) amphophilic cytoplasm 5) mature lymphocytes 6) stroma a) variable density b) narrow septa of fibrovascular tissue 7) necrosis may be present Genetics: -> may be associated with genomic integration of the Epstein-Barr virus
