lupus pernio
Etiology:
- seen in association with sarcoidosis (pathognomonic)
Epidemiology:
- female/male ratio: 2/1
- more common in black than whites [7]
Pathology:
- non-caseating granulmonas with minimal lymphocytic infiltration
Clinical manifestations:
- granulomatous inflammation of skin around the nares
- indurated blue to purple, swollen shiny lesions on nose, cheeks, lips, ears, fingers, & knees
- painless [7]

Complications:
- 75% have pulmomary sarcoidosis [7]
Management:
- high doses of corticosteroids are effective but are associated with steroid-related toxicity
- infliximab may be effective [2]
