5th lumbar spinal nerve (L5)

Function: - hallux dorsiflexion - sensory lateral leg, dorsal foot Physical examination: - walking on heels test motor function at L4-L5. - light touch in the dorsal foot tests sensory function at L5. Innervation: 1) extensor hallucis longus 2) extensor digitorum brevis Pathology: - referred pain a) L5 ganglion -> anterior leg or foot b) L5 & S1 -> lateral or posterior calf c) L5 -> dorsum of foot [2]
