The enlargement of the subarachnoid space between the conus medullaris (about vertebral level L2) & inferior end of subarachnoid space & dura mater (about vertebral level S2).
-> occupied by the dorsal & ventral roots constituting the cauda equina, the terminal filum & cerebrospinal fluid
Notes: Site of lumbar puncture & spinal anesthesia.
