lodoxamide (Alomide)
Tradenames: Alomide.
Indications:
- treatment of vernal keratoconjunctivitis, vernal conjunctivitis, & vernal keratitis
Contraindications:
Caution: NOT for use in patients wearing soft contact lenses
Dosage:
- adults & children > 2 years of age:
- 1-2 drops QID for up to 3 months
Solution: 0.1% (10 mL)
Adverse effects:
1) common (> 10%)
- transient burning, stinging, discomfort
2) less common (1-10%)
- blurred vision, corneal erosion/ulcer, eye pain, corneal abrasion, headache
3) uncommon (< 1%)
- dizziness, somnolence, rash, nausea, stomach discomfort, blepharitis, sneezing, dry nose
4) other
- crystalline deposits
Mechanism of action:
- mast-cell stabilizer that inhibits type-1 immediate hypersentivity reaction
