Lisch nodule

pigmented hamartomatous nevus affecting the iris, named after Austrian ophthalmologist Karl Lisch (1907-1999), who described them in 1937 Etiology: - found in patients with neurofibromatosis type 1 Pathology: - clear, yellow-brown, oval to round, dome-shaped papules that project from the surface of the iris - nodules generally do not affect vision - nodules stain positive for vimentin & S-100 - likely of ectodermal origin Special laboratory: - nodules etected by slit lamp examination
