LINX Reflux Management System

Indications: - treatment of gastroesophageal reflux (GERD) due to a weak lower esophageal sphincter not responding to medication Contraindications: - magnetic resonance imaging is contraindicated in patients with the device Procedure: - surgical placement of a string of magnetic titanium beads at the lower esophageal sphincter - when the person swallows, the device expands to accomodate the food or drink - once the food passes, a weak lower esophageal sphincter is kept closed by the device Adverse effects: - dysphagia - odynophagia - chest pain - nausea/vomiting
