lentigo; melanocytic macule
A brown macule resembling a freckle.
Etiology:
- multiple mucosal lentigenes associated with
- Peutz-Jeghers syndrome
- Laugier-Hunziker syndrome
- idiopathic
Pathology:
1) proliferation of the rete ridges
2) scattered melanocytes (increased numbers) are seen in the basal cell layer
3) increased pigment occur in the epidermis
Clinical manifestations:
1) 0.3-1.5 cm macule
2) tan to black in color
3) distribution
a) most commonly in sun-exposed areas
b) face, lower lip, upper trunk, extremities
4) borders are generally regular

Management:
1) observation
2) cryosurgery
3) lasers that target melanin
