See Eisenmenger's syndrome
Pathology:
- a large left to right cardiac shunt can produce pulmonary hypertension & irreversible pulmonary vascular disease
- pulmonary hypertension can cause a left to right shunt to reverse so that blood flows from right to left, resulting in cyanotic heart disease (see Eisenmenger's syndrome)
