lateral pontine syndrome; Marie-Foix Syndrome

Pathology: - brainstem infaction in the lateral pons, including the middle cerebellar peduncle - occlusion of perforating branches of the basilar artery & anterior inferior cerebellar arteries Clinical manifestations: - ipsilateral cerebellar ataxia via cerebellar tracts - ipsilateral facial paralysis via cranial nerve 7 - ipsilateral hearing loss, vertigo & nystagmus via cochlear nuclei, vestibular nuclei & cranial nerve 8 - contralateral hemiparesis via corticospinal tract - variable contralateral hemihypesthesia for pain & temperature via spinothalamic tract
