Indications:
- artificial sweetener
- chronic idiopathic constipation
Dosage:
- 20 grams PO QD with meal
- reduce sode to 10 gram QD for loose stools
* separate other oral medications by 2 hours (before or after lactitol)
* dose packs 10 grams
Adverse effects:
- flatulence, diarrhea, abdominal distendion,
- increased serum CPK, increased blood pressure
Mechanism of action:
- osmotic laxative
- causes an influx of water into the small intestine
Notes:
- 40% of the sweetness of sucrose
