Function: 1) acts as a component of the essential kinetochore-associated NDC80 complex 2) kinetochore integrity & organization of stable microtubule binding sites in outer plate of kinetochore 3) interacts with NEK2 & ZWINT specifically during mitosis 4) interacts with CENPH & MIS12 5) interacts with AURKB, PSMC2, PSMC5, SMC1L1 (putative) 6) interacts with RB1 during G2 phase & mitosis (putative) 7) phosphorylation begins in S phase of cell cycle & peaks in mitosis 8) phosphorylated by NEK2 9) may also be phosphorylated by AURKA & AURKB Compartment: - nucleus, kinetochore - localizes to kinetochores from late prophase to anaphase - localizes specifically to the outer plate of kinetochore Expression: - peaks in mitosis
