Function: 1) inhibits natural killer cell (NK cell) cytotoxicity - induced by IL12 in NK cells 2) stimulation of acid sphingomyelinase/SMPD1with resulting in elevation of intracellular ceramide 3) stimulation of AKT1/PKB & RPS6KA1/RSK1 kinases 4) enhanced T-cell proliferation induced by anti-CD3 5) lectin that binds to the terminal carbohydrate Gal-alpha(1,3)Gal & N-acetyllactosamine epitopes 6) binds to CLEC2D/LLT1 7) inhibits interferon-gamma secretion Structure: 1) homodimer, disulfide-linked 2) N-glycosylated 3) contains sialic acid residues 4) contains 1 C-type lectin domain Compartment: membrane Expression: - expressed in a subset of NK cells predominantly in intestinal epithelium & liver - expressed in peripheral blood T-cells, preferentially in adult T-cells with a memory antigenic phenotype - induced by IL12 in NK cells
