AV junctional rhythm

Cardiac rhythm initiated from spontaneous depolarization from with in AV node. Etiology: 1) myocardial ischemia or infarction 2) hypokalemia 3) AV node blocking agents a) digitalis toxicity b) beta-blockers c) Ca+2 channel blockers Clinical manifestations: depend upon rate & underlying condition Special laboratory: - electrocardiogram: a) narrow complex b) regular rhythm @ 30-60/min c) p-waves may be present (PR interval < 0.12 sec), absent or retrograde Management: 1) correction of underlying etiology 2) cardiac pacing a) temporary if unstable b) permanent pacing may be necessary
