AV junctional rhythm
Cardiac rhythm initiated from spontaneous depolarization from with in AV node.
Etiology:
1) myocardial ischemia or infarction
2) hypokalemia
3) AV node blocking agents
a) digitalis toxicity
b) beta-blockers
c) Ca+2 channel blockers
Clinical manifestations: depend upon rate & underlying condition
Special laboratory:
- electrocardiogram:
a) narrow complex
b) regular rhythm @ 30-60/min
c) p-waves may be present (PR interval < 0.12 sec), absent or retrograde
Management:
1) correction of underlying etiology
2) cardiac pacing
a) temporary if unstable
b) permanent pacing may be necessary
Specific
