Janeway spot or lesion (smoke ring)

Etiology: - one of the signs of endocarditis - may also be seen in mycotic aneurysm Pathology: - causative organisms have been isolated from lesions Clinical manifestations: - they are irregular, erythematous, flat, painless macules (smoke rings) of the palms, soles, thenar eminence & hypothenar eminence of the hands, tips of fingers, & plantar surfaces of the toes - they occur rarely in a diffuse rash - in acute endocarditis, the lesions may be hemorrhagic or purple. * images [3,4]
