isosorbide mononitrate (ISMO, Monoket, Imdur)

Tradenames: ISMO, Monoket. Alias ISMN. Indications: - angina pectoris - prophylaxis for angina pectoris - chronic heart failure Dosage: 20 mg PO every 7 hours. 2 doses/day Tabs: 10 & 20 mg. Extended-release: Tradename: Imdur. 30-240 mg PO QD. Tabs: 60 mg. * An 8-12 hour nitrate-free period needed to avoid nitrate tolerance [2] Adverse effects: - may adversely affect (diminish) activity levels in patients with LV diastolic dysfunction [3] Notes: - mononitrates are less prone than dinitrates to cause tolerance
