ischemia-modified albumin in serum/plasma

Indications: - assessement of acute myocardial infarction (MI) measured within 24 hours of acute MI - assessment of myocardial perfusion during coronary bypass surgery Procedure: - albumin cobalt binding assay Clinical significance: - predicts poor cardiac outcome at 1 year after MI - reveals myocardial perfusion defect during coronary bypass surgery [2] - helpful in establishing diagnosis in the early stages of ischemia, before necrosis develops [2] Notes: - never widely used and is no longer available for clinical use in the U.S. [3]
