Function: - specifically binds to the upstream regulatory region of type 1 IFN & IFN-inducible MHC class 1 genes (the interferon consensus sequence, ICS) & activates those genes Structure: - belongs to the IRF family - contains 1 tryptophan pentad repeat DNA-binding domain Compartment: nucleus Expression: induced by viruses & IFN Pathology: - deletion or rearrangement of IRF1 are a cause of preleukemic myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) & of acute myelogenous leukemia (AML)
