interpersonal therapy (IPT)

Indications: - depression (as good if not better than CBT)* - even more effective when combined with pharmacotherapy - anxiety disorders (less effective than CBT) - binge-eating disorders and bulimia nervosa - less effective than CBT [1] * CBT = cognitive behavioral therapy Procedure: - brief therapy focusing on loss, interpersonal disputes, role transitions, & interpersonal deficits
