inferior cerebellar peduncle (restiform body)

Efferents: - the most inferior of the 3 large paired bundles carrying nerve fibers to the cerebellum (cerebellar input) Course: - fibers develop on the dorsolateral surfaces of the upper medulla. - they pass under the lateral recesses of the rhomboid fossa & curve dorsomedially into the cerebellum caudally & medially to the middle cerebellar peduncle Origin: - fibers originate from spinal neurons & medullary relay nuclei. Structure: the inferior cerebellar peduncle consists of: 1) restiform body (larger lateral bundle) a) crossed fibers from the inferior olive* b) fibers from the dorsal spinocerebellar tract c) fibers from the lateral reticular nucleus d) fibers from the accessory cuneate nucleus e) fibers from the paramedian reticular nuclei f) fibers from the perihypoglossal nuclei g) fibers from other nuclei 2) juxtarestiform body (smaller medial bundle) - vestibular fibers * a few fibers from the dentate nucleus of the cerebellum project to the inferior olivary nucleus
