indium-labeled WBC scan

Indications: similar to gallium scan 1) *infections a) acute interstitial nephritis b) internal abscess c) pyelonephritis d) fever of unknown origin 2) hematopoietic malignancies a) lymphoma b) leukemia Procedure: - leukocytes (mostly neutrophils) are removed by apheresis, tagged with Indium-111, & then injected intravenously - the tagged leukocytes subsequently localize to areas of relatively high leukocyte activity (infection, lymphoma, leukemia)
