interleukin-17 (IL-17)
A family of inflammatory cytokines including:
1) IL17A
2) IL17B
3) IL17C
4) IL17D
5) IL17E
6) IL17F
Pharmacology:
- IL17 antibody (ixekizumab) is effective in treatment of psoriasis [1]
- effect may be mediated through IL17A since antibody to IL17A receptor (brodalumab) is also effective in treatment of psoriasis [2]
Pathology:
- linked to multiple sclerosis, psoriasis & other autoimmune disorders [4]
Specific
interleukin-17A; cytotoxic T-lymphocyte-associated antigen 8 (IL17A, IL-17A, CTLA-8)
interleukin-17B; neuronal interleukin-17 related factor; cytokine-like protein ZCYTO7 (IL17B, IL-17B)
interleukin-17C; cytokine CX2 (IL-17C)
interleukin-17D; interleukin-27; IL-27 (IL17D, IL-17D, IL27, UNQ3096/PRO21175)
interleukin-17E; interleukin-25; IL-25; IL-17E (IL25, IL17E, UNQ3120/PRO10272)
interleukin-17F; cytokine ML-1; interleukin-24; IL-24 (IL17F, IL-17F, IL24)
