interleukin-13 (IL13, IL-13, NC30)

Function: - inhibits inflammatory cytokine (IL-6, IL-1 beta, TNF-alpha, IL-8, gro-B) secretion induced by LPS in monocytes - synergizes with IL-2 in regulating IFN-gamma synthesis in NK cells - also enhances proliferation of B-cells & expression of CD23 - in conjunction with IL-4, stimulates responding B-cells to switch to IgE production - interacts with IL13RA2 Structure: belongs to the IL-4/IL-13 family Compartment: secreted Pathology: - defects in IL13 may be a cause of susceptibility to allergic rhinitis Note: - uncertain whether Met-1 or Met-15 is the initiator
