CD102; intercellular adhesion molecule 2; ICAM-2 (ICAM2)

Function: 1) ICAM proteins are ligands for the leukocyte adhesion protein LFA-1 (integrin alpha-L/beta-2 2) mediates adhesive interactions important for a) antigen-specific immune response b) NK-cell mediated clearance c) lymphocyte recirculation via blocking LFA-1-dependent cell adhesion d) other immune response & surveillance functions 3) adhesion of leukocytes to endothelium during inflammation Structure: - belongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily, ICAM family - contains 2 Ig-like C2-type domain (immunoglobulin-like) Compartment: membrane Expression: - constitutively expressed on surface of endothelial cells, lymphocytes, monocytes, platelets - some lymphomas - neutrophils stain negatively with antibody
