Epidemiology: - used as rocket propellant apparently 1000 lbs on board disabled satellite shot down on Feb 21, 2008 - when release into the environment, hydrazine generally breaks down into safer components within minutes or hours Complications: - breathing hydrazine for a short time may cause - coughing - throat & lung irritation - tremors, convulsions, seizures - breathing hydrazine for longer periods of time may cause - liver & kidney damage - serious reproductive effects - dermal contact with hydrazine may cause: - erythema - chemicial burns - pain - ingestion of hydrazine may cause - nausea, vomiting - uncontrolled shaking - nerve inflammation - drowsiness, coma - contact Poison Control Center if exposure occurs Laboratory: - hydrazine in air - hydrazine in blood - hydrazine/creatinine in urine
