hyaluronate gel for rectal injection (Solesta)
Indications:
- treatment of fecal incontinence for patients >= 18 years of age
Contraindications:
- active inflammatory bowel disease
- immunodeficiency
- previous pelvic irradiation
- significant rectal prolapse
- active infection
- bleeding
- tumors or malformation of the anorectal area
- hemorrhoids
- exsiting implant in the anorectal region
- allergy to hyaluronate-based gel
Dosage:
- 2 treatments, consisting of 4 injections each
Adverse effects:
- injection area pain & bleeding (most common)
- infection & inflammation of anal tissue (less common)
Procedure:
- injected into a layer of tissue beneath the anus lining
