Procedures:
- reduces incidence of delirium & in-hospital falls
- includes 3 postoperative nursing interventions
- early mobilization
- oral & nutritional assistance
- orienting communication
Clinical significance:
- reduces frailty at hospital discharge [1]
- reduces in hospital delirium [4]
- reduces in hospital falls [4]
- reduces health care costs [4]
- benefit diminished 3 months after discharge [1]
- trends toward decreasing length of stay & placement in a nursing home have not been definitely shown [4]
