Indications: - epilepsy, neuropathic pain - assessment of risk for Stevens-Johnson syndrome & toxic epidermal necrolysis - carbamazepine, lamotrigine or phenytoin therapy in high-risk populations* * Han Chinese at highest risk * persons from Vietnam, Cambodia, the Reunion Islands, Thailand, India (specifically Hindus), Malaysia, & Hong Kong Clinical significance: - carbamazepine, lamotrigine & phenytoin induced Stevens-Johnson syndrome & toxic epidermal necrolysis is associated with HLA-B*1502 allele in high-risk populations
