Indications:
- HIV1 infection
Clinical significance:
1) determines eligibility for maraviroc (Selzentry) therapy by determining variations in the HIV-1 envelope V3 loop by PCR [1]
2) HIV1 tropism testing determines ability of HIV-1 isolate to infect & replicate in monocytes [3]
3) indirectly measures ability of HIV1 to gain access to monocytes via chemokine receptor CCR5
