The physiologic process in which certain mammals reduce metabolism with hypothermia, bradycardia, hypopnea during the winter months.
True hibernators reduce body temperature to near freezing resulting in a comatose condition:
1) woodchucks
2) ground squirrels
Partial hibernators do not become comatose
1) bears
2) skunks
3) racoons
