Function: - protein components of complexes of RNA & protein present in the cell nucleus during gene transcription & subsequent post-transcriptional modification of newly synthesized RNA (pre-mRNA), i.e. spliceosome C complex - binding of hnRNP to a pre-mRNA molecule serves as a signal that the pre-mRNA is not yet fully processed * ready for export to the cytoplasm - after splicing has occurred, the hnRNP remain bound to spliced introns & target them for degradation
