Herpes zoster mandubularis
Etiology:
- reactivation of varicella-zoster virus
Clinical manifestations:
case report [1]'
- unilateral manifestations (lesions & pain) in the distribution of the mandibular nerve
- facial edema
- rash with vesicles, pustules, & crusts along the lower jaw,
- plaque covering anterior 2/3 of tongue
- lower facial pain, otalgia, & glossodynia preceding rash
- no neurologic deficits, meningeal signs, or lymphadenopathy
Complications:
- postherpetic neuralgia
Management:
- analgesic agents, including gabapentin
- acyclovir
- nystatin
