Etiology:
- exposure to hepatitis B virus with subsequent development of immunity
- successful hepatitis B vaccination
Clinical significance:
1) presence of HBsAb indicates immunity
2) rises with disappearance of HBcAg IgM with development of immunity
3) lags behind disappearance of HBsAg
4) does not appear in chronic hepatitis B
5) appears after successful hepatitis B vaccination
6) a quantitative value of > 10 mIU/mL implies immunity
