Indications: - evaluation or screening for anemia - evaluation or screening for erythrocytosis Reference interval: - adult male: 14.0-17.5 g/dL - adult female: 12.3-15.3 g/dL Specimen: - Whole blood (EDTA). - Stable for 24 h at 4 C. Notes: - supine position redistributes plasma into the vascular space, resulting in dilution of blood constituents with decline in blood hemoglobin of as much as 1.0 g/dL (median 0.6 g/dL) [4]
