Helicobacter pylori (H pylori) antibody in serum

Indications: - H pylori infection - peptic ulcer disease Contraindications: - not routinely indicated for GERD Procedure: ELISA: detects IgG or IgA antibodies to H pylori Sensitivity: 90-100% Specificity: 76-96% Accuracy: 83-98% Testing may be less specific in the elderly. [2] Post eradication: 1) at 3 months H pylori titers decrease by 50% 2) at 18 months, 60% of patients have undetectable H pylori antibodies Notes: - not affected by recent gastrointestinal bleeding or the use of proton pump inhibitors [3]
